Esopus is binannual art magazine featuring fresh, unmediated perspectives on contemporary culture from a wide range of creative professionals. It includes long-form artists’ projects, critical writing, fiction, poetry, visual essays, interviews, and, in each issue, a CD of new music relating to a particular theme.

The 7th issue features 100 FRAMES: "TROPICAL MALADY", the film by Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, with an introduction by Dennis Lim, the film editor of the Village Voice.

Women in a society of double-sexuality

Art in the Reign of King Rama IX: 6 Decades of Thai Art

December 8, 2006 –February 11, 2007

The Rama IX’s Art Museum Foundation together with The Queen’s Gallery organise this exhibition to honour His Majesty’s birthday and 60th year of His Majesty’s accession to the throne. By showcasing the development of art making during the six decades, this exhibition portrays the periods of changes and influences that make the arts during the reign of present the King different from those of the previous reigns.

The exhibition features His Majesty the King of Thailand’s painting and photographic works. With in His Majesty’s own artistic talents in art making, he has been regarded as Thailand’s “Supreme Artist.

The other part of the exhibition displays works of prominent Thai artists made during the past 60 years. They are divided into six rooms, each representing a period of 10 years. The exhibition gives an experience of going back in time to witness each stage of development of contemporary and modern art in Thailand.

The largest part of the exhibition is devoted to the multimedia “virtual museum” (www.rama9art.org) which audience can take a virtual tour through the digitally interactive interface.

Winter Festival at Mrigadayavan Palace

9 - 11 December 2006

The beach-front festivity that will bring back the history and lively atmosphere of the beautiful palace of Mrigadayavan. The Palace has been restored and managed as a museum after being abandoned since King Vajiravudh passed away in 1925. There will be shops and rare products, a variety of activities and workshops, as well as, famous local food favourites.

A Dream of Liberation

9 December 2006 – 6 January 2007

The solo exhibition of mixed–media works and paintings by Maitree Siriboon, a talented 5th-year student at Silpakorn University. He has won numerous art awards. The most recent one is the second place of Bangkok Bank Art Competition 2006. In "A Dream of Liberation", the artist portrays his childhood memory and the livelihood in Northeastern part Thailand with mixed media techniques, including traditional one. Pieces of colored glass normally used in decorating temples are used in his mix-media works.

This is a debut exhibition of WHITESPACE Gallery, a new art space in the heart of Bangkok’s Siam Square area. WHITESPACE is a Bangkok-based architectural and interior design consultant company, specializing in strategic consumer environment design. The gallery’s primary mission is to feature the works of emerging young artists.

“Dream of Liberation” opens at 7pm, Saturday 9 December 2006.

HIT & RUN TV ART LAB

It's been a long time since there was a TV prgram that features the lives and works of Thai visual artists. The new initiative, HIT & RUN TV ART LAB, is a promising new TV program that will, for the first time, broadcast the works of emerging Thai artists as its content. This will surely bring the works to the mass audience.

HIT & RUN TV ART LAB, in collaboration with Whale Co,. Ltd. and Beyond Channel, will broadcast on ThaiTV 7 (Thursday, 9.00-9.30 PM) during December 2006 – January 2007.

Please note that to view ThaiTV 7, it requires the technical set up of the "digital set box."
