Bangkok-Ok teammates are attending the Sharjah Biennial 8 (www.sharjahbiennial.org)
The Biennial's theme is "STILL LIFE: Art, Ecology, and The Politics of Changes".
The official opening will be on April 4th, 2007. The Biennial will take place until June 4th, 2007.

The Biennial’s Director is Hoor Al Qasimi, the Artistic Director is Jack Persekian and Curators are Mohammed Kazem, Eva Scharrer and Jonathan Watkins.

Sharjah Biennial 1st-2nd day

Most of the images are on "Cloud” by SOI Project. It is meant to be a large-scaled ‘artificial clouds’, designed to cover half of the expo centre's ceiling with low-cost and recyclable materials – mainly A-3 paper sheets.

The three artists: Wit Pimkanchanapong, Pitupong Chaiwakul and Jiro Endo, have combined their knowledge in architecture and lighting design on the "Cloud." The lighting on the "Cloud" can be controlled and visually manipulated by the audience.

“METISSAGES”

March 30 - June 17, 2007

Presenting cross breeding of art and textiles, this exhibition presents works made as collaborations between various international contemporary artists and French craftsmen in the field of Lace, tapestry and embroidery. It gathers sixty pieces from the French National Contemporary Art Found and private collections of renowned textile craftsmen and contemporary artists such as Christian Lacroix, Annette Massager, Johan Creten, Jean-Michel Othoniel. Some original drawings (preparatory studies) coming with the hand of the artists are also exhibited to reinforce and illustrate the exhibition and give a new perspective to the creation of the piece.

The exhibition also incorporates a few Thai traditional pieces of textile selected by Yves Sabourin regarding their modern aspects.

An installation of wooden sculptures. The works represent both concrete and philosophical figures which express the natural values of trees through "a sense of a surgical intervention on a body producing symbolically complex, visually minimalist artistic creations."

Hot Discussion: TDCD's Role in Thai Society

On Tuesday- March 20th, there was a discussion on the role of TCDC (Thailand Creative & Design Center Project) at TCDC's auditorium. It gathered a wide range of people, from architects, designers, academics, cultural workers, social workers, government officials, business owners, marketing gurus to students.

The issues raised were regarding 1) the role 2) the service 3) activities. There were suggestions, applauses, critical comments, questions and emotional expressions.

It is hoped that this kind of forum which opens the aspect of participation in an institution like TCDC will take place more often in the future. Many points in the discussion are certainly constructive and useful for the management to make the best out of TCDC.
